• Breathtaking…that's what came to mind when we saw the ruins of an old Nevada mine at sunset. The walls had been constructed of wine bottles and mud. All those old bottles arranged so perfectly and capturing the sunlight, what better inspiration for a lighting family? We mimicked the bottle ends with recycled steel circles of varying sized filled with recycled glass discs. Rarely before has a design based in "old" seemed so powerfully new.

Inspirations
Some lighting designers draw inspiration from artistic and historical sources. Others are also inspired by the people who illuminate their lives. At Varaluz, several of our designs are named in honor of friends and loved ones who have passed away.

For example, we call our line of leaf-ornamented fixtures DHPC, which stands for "Dale Howard Polo Club". Dale Howard Henderson was the brother of our company's president, Ron Henderson. One of Ron's great aunts, Francis Stanfield—a pioneering journalist in the 1940s—lends her name to our Stanfield line of antique reproduction lighting.

Our traditional Dorothy lighting was named for a dear friend, Dorothy Sawyer. The captivating shimmer of our Brilliance fixtures reflects the ebullient personality of Jeffrey McBride, an interior designer and dear friend. And with both our Carrillo line and our company name we pay homage to the aptly named Luz Selva Carrillo, the mother of President of Operations and Varaluz co-founder Jorge Hernandez.

We hope that everyone who specifies Varaluz Lighting and brings our fixtures into their homes will be equally inspired in turn.
